Liverpool are set to advance their interest in signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this summer, having cleared the path by offloading Jarell Quansah.

The Reds have made the England defender their top target to strengthen their defence with Guehi out of contract at Palace in the summer of 2026.

But the Premier League champions first needed to raise funds after already splurging over £150million on new talents Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong already this window.



They also had to make space in the team for an additional centre-back to guarantee Guehi sufficient playing time, which has been a deciding factor for him.

And it appears Liverpool's hierarchy have skilfully negotiated these obstacles by selling academy product Quansah to Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.

Quansah has completed his move with a £35m deal, agreeing to a five-year contract with the German side.

Reflecting on his departure from Anfield, Quansah said: "From the moment I walked through the doors of the academy at 5 years old, I dreamed of one day wearing the Liverpool shirt at Anfield.

This is goodbye for now, but I'll always be watching - once a Red, always a Red."

With Quansah's departure, Liverpool are now in need of a replacement, with Guehi being the likely candidate.

Furthermore, they may soon require another centre-back, given the uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konate's future, who has just one year remaining on his contract and has interest from Real Madrid and PSG.

In the meantime, Liverpool will continue to focus on potential departures.
