Liverpool have signed some big names already this summer but the biggest may still be yet to arrive.
The Reds have not exactly been the most secretive in the transfer window when it comes to their targets, with almost everyone knowing at this point that they are in for Alexander Isak.
The Swede has been Liverpool’s ‘dream’ target all summer long and even though at one point a move seemed impossible, reports would now suggest there is a glimmer of hope.
Eddie Howe revealed after Newcastle’s pre-season game against Celtic that Isak was left out due to the transfer speculation around him, and now, he has not travelled with the team for their tour of Singapore.
Now, with the Swede handing in a transfer request, this has left Liverpool fans on red alert, with many believing that he is desperately wanting a move to Anfield, something that would be both positive and negative.
If the Reds do, somehow, sign the striker this summer, they will almost certainly have to give up their pursuit of another long-standing target that they have.

The Reds have not just wanted a striker this summer but they also look set to try and bring in a winger too, especially if Luis Diaz leaves.
The Colombian is open to a move away and Bayern Munich appear his preferred destination, with the Bundesliga champions preparing a second bid for him.

Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon is someone who Liverpool are big admirers of and could always replace Diaz, with the former Evertonian almost signing last summer until the Magpies made a U-turn last minute.
However, there is simply no chance that Newcastle will allow both Gordon and Isak to leave this summer, let alone both going to the same club.
Therefore, if the Reds are serious about the duo, then they will have to pick just one of them, and realistically, if Isak is available, which he looks like he might be, he is the one they will choose.

That is not to say that Gordon would not be open to joining later down the line, especially as he is a boyhood red, but both in the same window is near-impossible, especially with the money Liverpool have already spent.
The Scouser only recently signed a new long-term contract, suggesting he would cost a lot of money to prise away, but if the Reds can show next season that they will dominate for years to come, he might be tempted to force a move.
There is no doubt that Gordon is a quality footballer, but he is certainly not ‘one of a kind’, whereas Isak definitely is.
With Isak said to be open to exploring a move away this summer, Newcastle will surely want to cash in while he is the most valuable he will ever be, suggesting this one is a real possibility.
