Liverpool have named a 24-man Premier League squad for the first half of the season.

Federico Chiesa is one of four players included who had been left out of Arne Slot’s Champions League ranks.

The Italian, Rhys Williams, Calvin Ramsay and Fabian Mrozek have all been included in the Reds’ squad, with Rio Ngumoha and Giovanni Leoni both making way from the quota selected for European competition.

But despite being left out from Liverpool’s senior squad, the teenage pair will still be eligible to play in the Premier League this season as they qualify as Under-21s players.

Squad registration rules are different for UEFA competitions, with neither Ngumoha or Leoni eligible for a place on ‘List B’ despite being under the age of 21 as they have not been at Liverpool long enough to qualify for such status.

Williams and Mrozek both fill homegrown berths in the Reds squad, along with Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones and Freddie Woodman.

Liverpool still have one homegrown berth vacant, which would have been filled by Marc Guehi had Crystal Palace not pulled the plug on his 11th hour move to Anfield.

Meanwhile, Chiesa and Ramsay fill the Reds’ final 16th and 17th overseas berths in place of Ngumoha and Leoni.

However, Williams, Ramsay and Mrozek are unlikely to be considered for Slot’s first team this season with the trio instead training with Rob Page’s Under-21s side.

Liverpool have registered a number of Under-21s players alongside Ngumoha, Leoni and the full 24-man squad, with the likes of Stefan Bajcetic, Luke Chambers, Jayden Danns, Kaide Gordon, Trent Kone-Doherty, Amara Nallo, Trey Nyoni, Calum Scanlon and summer signings Armin Pecsi and Will Wright all named and eligible for selection if required.
