The Reds’ summer of madness is showing no signs of slowing up and after adding Hugo Ekitike to their squad, their team is almost complete.

The Frenchman has arrived for an initial fee of £69m that could rise up to £79m, with fans hoping that the 23-year-old can be the man to lead their line for many years to come.

When you play for Liverpool, every game is a big game because the expectation is to win absolutely everything available to them, meaning there will be even more pressure on Ekitike’s shoulders.

However, he has proven in the past that he does not let the big occasions get to him, suggesting that he could be a real success at Anfield.

Ekitike’s rise over the past few years has been nothing short of sensational, as just four years ago he was on loan at Danish Superliga side Vejle.

He was just 18 at the time and found minutes hard to come by, although when he was given the chance, he certainly took it, even if it was in their most important game of the season.

“There was a game against Sonderjyske that if we won, we avoided relegation,” Jacob Schoop, Vejle’s captain at the time, told BBC Sport in April.

“Hugo was unbelievable in that game.

That’s the sign of a big game player – to step up and find that bit extra.”

Ekitike grabbed two assists in this game as Vejle went on to win 4-2, with his contribution helping to keep them in the division.

The following season he went on to net 10 times for Stade Reims in Ligue 1, showing just how much he learnt during his loan spell and how far he has come since.

There is clearly a reason why Liverpool decided to opt for Ekitike over some of their other targets, but now he has to prove why it was the right choice.

With Darwin Nunez, ability has never really been his issue, it is his inconsistency in front of goal, something Ekitike will hopefully change.

Far too often the Uruguayan has found himself with a good goalscoring opportunity, only to squander his chance, even if sometimes it looked easier to score than miss.

Ekitike will, hopefully, show a bit more composure in front of goal and as he will not be short of chances, if he manages to do this, he will get a ridiculous amount of goals next season.
