Liverpool remain in the market to strengthen their attacking department this summer, despite closing in on the signing of Florian Wirtz.

The Reds are seemingly all but there for an agreement to bring Wirtz, 22, to Anfield in a deal that could be worth north of £109million - a fee that would represent a club record.

Wirtz had been linked with a move to Manchester City and Bayern Munich, but he has given his preference to Liverpool and a move is set to be completed in the near future.

The Athletic reported on Wednesday that Slot met with Lyon's Rayan Cherki over a potential summer transfer.

It's added that the Liverpool head coach left his holiday and flew to the south of France to meet Cherki, 21.

The Reds plan to do their due diligence on other players in the background and Cherki, who scored twice against Manchester United in the Europa League in April, has been identified as a target.

As well as looking to sign another attacking midfielder, the Premier League champions want a left-back.

Talks are ongoing but the Cherries plan to hold out to get the full valuation.

Even though Slot wants to 'add more pace, more dynamism, more creativity and more goals' to his team, The Athletic add that any further incomings after Wirtz and Kerkez would be influenced by outgoings.

Darwin Nunez has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League and could be sold to raise cash after struggling to adapt to life since Slot was appointed, while Luis Diaz has emerged as a target for Barcelona and Al-Nassr with his contract set to run out in 2027.

Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah, meanwhile, are two players that have been linked with a potential move to Leverkusen as part of the deal to bring Wirtz to Anfield.

Slot is determined to ensure Liverpool are serious contenders for the Champions League next season, having been knocked out at the last 16 stage against Paris Saint-Germain this term.
