A dramatic twist unfolded on Thursday as Alexander Isak’s proposed switch from Newcastle United to Liverpool burst into life.

Widespread reports revealed the Sweden international informed Newcastle’s hierarchy that he wishes to explore a summer exit, just hours after being left out of the Magpies’ pre-season tour squad in Asia.

Now Fabrizio Romano has reported that Chelsea is not currently involved in trying to sign Isak, and adds that Liverpool are the only club trying to broker a deal with Newcastle:

“Chelsea not actively working on Alexander Isak deal and no interest in proceeding despite reports,” the transfer expert wrote on X.

“Chelsea very happy with their strikers and fully focused on Xavi Simons and Jorrel Hato deals now.

“The club working on Isak deal was, is and remains Liverpool.”
