Liverpool have confirmed Jarell Quansah’s departure this summer.
Bayer Leverkusen have also officially confirmed the capture of 22-year-old centre-back from Liverpool, sealing a five-year deal that runs until 2030.
The English defender joins Die Werkself for an initial fee of £30 million, with a further £5 million payable in performance-related add-ons.
Quansah, fresh from England’s Under-21 European Championship triumph, arrives to fill the void left by Jonathan Tah’s departure to Bayern Munich.
Leverkusen head coach Erik ten Hag views the academy graduate as a long-term successor in central defence.
Crucially, Liverpool have negotiated a buy-back clause that becomes active from the summer of 2027.
The fixed fee is set at more than €60 million, ensuring the option to re-acquire Quansah if he fulfils his potential on German soil.
This structure reflects modern asset-management strategies, granting Leverkusen two guaranteed seasons with the player while allowing Liverpool to retain long-term control over his future.
Quansah’s medical in Leverkusen was completed earlier this week, paving the way for an introduction at the BayArena ahead of pre-season.
The fee the Anfield club receives for Quansah will be filed under pure profit for the Premier League’s Sustainability and Profit rules.
He joined the club’s Academy at the age of five and quickly established himself as a leader, captaining the U18s to an FA Youth Cup final and later guiding the U21s in the UEFA Youth League.
After a spell on loan at Bristol Rovers in early 2023, he made his senior debut as a substitute in the dramatic comeback win over Newcastle United in August 2023, before netting his first goal for the Reds in a Europa League tie that December.
Rewarded with a long-term contract in October 2024, Quansah went on to make over fifty appearances and played his part in Liverpool’s 2024-25 Premier League title triumph before now bidding farewell to Anfield.
