Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia concluded in spectacular fashion as the Reds came from behind to defeat Yokohama F.

Marinos 3-1 at Nissan Stadium on Wednesday night.

The game marked several notable debuts and firsts, with Florian Wirtz bagging his maiden Liverpool goal in the 62nd minute after Curtis Jones’ sharp interception set up the equalizer

Hugo Ekitike made his Liverpool debut after his £79 million move from Eintracht Frankfurt, though the striker was unable to find the net despite some promising moments, including a near-post flick that was well saved.

However, it was Liverpool’s academy graduates who truly stole the spotlight.

18-year-old Trey Nyoni continued his impressive pre-season form by converting Jeremie Frimpong’s excellent cross for the Reds’ second goal just six minutes after Wirtz’s equalizer.

But the star of the show was undoubtedly 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha, who capped a memorable evening with a stunning solo effort in the 87th minute, driving forward from the halfway line before cutting inside and firing past the goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Liverpool FC have confirmed the crowd of 67,032 supporters at Nissan Stadium today established a new record for any J.League-hosted match.

The attendance figure significantly exceeded the 49,704 spectators who watched Liverpool face AC Milan in Hong Kong earlier in the tour.

Of course, Wataru Endo playing in his home nation and his cult-like status at Liverpool no doubt boosted the turnout on the day.

Speaking to liverpoolfc.com after the game, the Japan skipper said:

“It was an amazing moment for me because I came back to Japan as a Liverpool player.”

“For me, it meant a lot.

It was an amazing moment for me.”

“First of all, I really appreciate my manager and Virg because of what they have done to me,” he said of captaining the side when he came on.

“I think it was a great gesture.

I think all Japanese people maybe wanted me to be captain!”

“All my family came to watch the game today, so I think they were very excited to watch this game today.”

“I’m happy that I could show this game to my family?

They are happy.”
