Liverpool are set to continue their recruitment drive this summer as they set their eyes on another defensive signing before the end of the transfer window.
The summer transfer window ends on September 1st, and whilst Liverpool have just signed centre-back Giovanni Leoni from Parma, they appear keen to add another man to the heart of their defence to add extra depth ahead of a long season.
Talks have opened with Liverpool and Crystal Palace for the transfer of Marc Guehi but the Eagles are proving to be tough negotiators, despite the England international heading into the final year of his contract.
Daily Mail Sport understands that Manchester United and Spurs have joined Liverpool in tracking Nathan Collins of Brentford, who has hugely impressed since moving from Wolves for a club-record fee in 2023.
Two key players departed Brentford this summer in Bryan Mbuemo and Christian Norgaard with the latter being the Bees former captain.
Now, Nathan Collins has become the new captain of the London club and is set to play a key role under new head coach Keith Andrews who described Collins as ‘a natural leader’ following the confirmation that he would become the new skipper.
Because of Collins being settled and happy at Brentford, it appears far-fetched to assume he would want to leave this summer, but if a big offer comes Brentford’s way, that could change everything.
Liverpool’s need to strengthen their back line was underlined on Friday night during their Premier League opener against Bournemouth.
The Reds grinded out a 4-2 win against the Cherries but it was far from convincing.
United and Spurs also have their reason for showing interest in the defender.
The Red Devils have already raided the Bees this summer for key player Bryan Mbuemo but are still actively on the hunt for another defender.
Spurs on the other hand, welcomed former Brentford manager Thomas Frank into the hot seat this summer, and he is a big fan of his former player Collins.
However, Frank may be reluctant to make a move for Collins given his high level of respect for his former employers.
