Liverpool were the Premier League side that delivered the best value for money in the Premier League last season.

Liverpool's wages plus amortisation costs for the last financial year put them behind Manchester City (86 points), Chelsea (83 points) and Manchester United (77 points).

City's wages plus amortisation figure of £519m was £100m higher than Liverpool's, which stood at £419m.

To work out an expected points total, analysts used a baseline of 23 points and calculated that clubs should expect to gain an earn an average of 1.2 points for every £10m that was spent.

Chelsea's new owners will be attempting to improve their own club's efficiency and the value for money it delivers after Thomas Tuchel's side were the fifth most inefficient with a wages plus amortisation spend of £496m seeing them claim nine points less than was to be expected.

While Manchester City had significant spend they were the fifth most efficient in the Premier League, behind Brighton & Hove Albion, West Ham United, Brentford, Spurs and Liverpool.
