Liverpool may have found the perfect partner as they look to develop a multi-club network.

According to The Times, LaLiga side Getafe has 'come under consideration' from the Reds.

The report adds the search has been conducted by FSG's chief executive of football Michael Edwards, FSG technical director Julian Ward and director of football development Pedro Marques.

Liverpool previously held an interest in French club Bordeaux but pulled out of talks last July.

Bordeaux later fell into bankruptcy and were demoted to the fourth tier of French football.

The Reds also looked at Spanish club Malaga, but a deal never progressed.

As for Getafe, they are an established LaLiga club and have maintained a spot in the Spanish top flight for the last eight seasons.

Getafe even qualified for the Europa League in the 2019/20 campaign and made it to the last 16 but were knocked out by eventual finalists Inter Milan.

The Spanish club, located in Madrid, are undergoing a redevelopment of their home ground, the Estadio Coliseum.

Once complete, the venue will boast a modernised look and a 19,000 capacity.

Completion of the stadium will also signal the departure of Getafe owner Angel Torres, who claimed he would leave the club when the redevelopment is finished in December 2027.

The decision to pursue an acquisition of a second club is said to be a key factor in luring Edwards back to Anfield.

Edwards was previously the club's sporting director but left his post in 2022.

However, his return, albeit in a role with FSG rather than Liverpool, was confirmed in March 2024.

"I was humbled by the desire and persistence they showed in wanting to work with me again," Edwards said.

In practice, this means having fresh challenges and opportunities.

"As such, one of the biggest factors in my decision is the commitment to acquire and oversee an additional club, growing this area of their organisation.

"I believe that to remain competitive, investment and expansion of the current football portfolio is necessary."

Should Liverpool press ahead with the acquisition of Getafe, they would join a large number of Premier League sides who are involved in multi-club ownerships.

The likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest are all part of multi-club networks.
