Merseyside Police identified Paul Doyle as the suspect in the incident where a car plowed into a crowd of Liverpool fans.
West Derby resident Doyle, aged 53, has been apprehended in connection with the terrifying incident on Monday that left 79 people injured and numerous individuals, including four children, hospitalized.
Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims announced at a media briefing: "Paul Desmond Sanders Doyle has this afternoon been charged with two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
"Two counts of causing unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm."
Sims also stated that Doyle is "also being charged with one count of dangerous driving
Doyle has been remanded into custody and he will appear at Liverpool magistrate's court in the morning."
Though Doyle faces six charges connected to grievous bodily harm, it is important to note that he has only been charged and not found guilty.
As such, Daily Star took it upon themselves to research potential prison time if convicted after trial, although Sentencing Council guidelines indicate that the lengths of sentences for separate charges are seldom cumulative.
Paul Doyle was arrested on Monday
As per Burton Copeland, a firm specializing in Criminal and Regulatory law, the average sentence for grievous bodily harm – the most serious charge against Doyle – could range from three years to life imprisonment, depending on the severity of the offence.
In theory, an estimate of Doyle's potential prison term could equate to one life sentence, despite him facing multiple counts of grievous bodily harm
These charges carry a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and an offence range of two to 16 years' custody, as stated by the Sentencing Council.
Doyle was apprehended at the scene on Water Street on Monday, under suspicion of attempted murder, driving whilst unfit due to drugs, and dangerous driving.
