Alexander Isak returned to Newcastle United on Monday but his future at St James' Park remains uncertain amid interest from Liverpool.
The Swede had been training on his own at the complex of former club, Real Sociedad, while his teammates continued their pre-season schedule.
The Reds saw their first bid rejected by their Premier League rivals after their £110million offer was turned down.
The ECHO reported recently that Liverpool have intimated that they won't make a second bid after their first was emphatically rejected by the Magpies.
Isak has reportedly signalled to chiefs in the North East that he wants to explore his options but the saga surrounding the 25-year-old has dragged on to within weeks of the Premier League curtain-raiser.

The ECHO has taken a look at the latest Liverpool transfer rumours surrounding Isak.
TalkSPORT have reported that Newcastle are now ready to cash in on Alexander Isak, if they sign Benjamin Sesko.
Eddie Howe's side have been steadfast in their stance that the Sweden international is not for sale.
However, the outlet has claimed that they could soften their approach to allowing their club-record signing to leave St James' Park if Sesko enters the fray.
Sources have reportedly told the outlet that the Slovenian's arrival could pave way for an exit should Liverpool agree a fee with the North East club.
Personal terms between the Reds and Isak is said not to be a problem with the forward reportedly informing Newcastle that he wants to move to Merseyside.
Newcastle have reportedly submitted an improved bid for Sesko worth €80million (£70m) plus add-ons.
Sky Sports have suggested that around £70million has been offered upfront after their £65m offer was turned.
The structure of the deal is reportedly being discussed between the Premier League club and RB Leipzig.
However, the outlet adds that Manchester United are also in contract with Ruben Amorim eyeing reinforcements before the window slams shut at the beginning of September.

He adds that for Isak to make the blockbuster move to Liverpool, the Magpies would need to have a replacement lined up or signed and Liverpool will need to pay a fee that the North East club deem acceptable.
Figures circulated previously were in the region of £150million for the forward, £40m short of the Reds £110m offer that was promptly rejected by chiefs in the region.
Liverpool are in a strong position themselves which will only be strengthened by the impending sale of Tyler Morton, who is on the verge of joining Lyon, as well as Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez after speculation continues to loom surrounding the pair.
