Liverpool have paid tribute to local rivals Everton as they get set to host their final men's game at Goodison Park on Sunday before moving stadium for next season.

The Blues will meet rock-bottom Southampton in a lunchtime kick-off on a day that is expected to be an emotional one for the club and their supporters, who are gearing up for a new future at Bramley-Moore Dock.

On Friday, it was confirmed the Reds will travel to the Hill Dickinson Stadium for next season's Merseyside derby after a naming rights agreement with the law firm was made public by the Toffees.

Ahead of what will be a famous afternoon at Goodison, Liverpool marked the occasion with a classy post on social media that was accompanied by an image of Reds fans thanking their Everton counterparts in the wake of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989.



The black-and-white image shows a banner from Liverpool fans, aimed at their neighbours, that read: "The Kop thanks you all.

We never walked alone."

Alongside that picture, Liverpool posted: "An historic stadium, a place where we have fought against one another and stood with each other.

Highs, lows and so many memories.

"The end of an era at Goodison Park and the beginning of a new one."

Liverpool's final visit to Goodison Park for a men's game ended in a 2-2 draw in February, after the game was rearranged from early December due to the effects of Storm Darragh across the Merseyside region.

The new Premier League champions return to action on Monday they are entertained by Brighton & Hove Albion.
