Liverpool players past and present have attended the funeral of Diogo Jota.

Jota and his brother Andre Silva were laid to rest in their hometown of Gondomar on Saturday, just two days after a tragic road accident in Spain.

His manager Arne Slot was present for the Portugal international’s final journey alongside key members of the Premier League champions’ squad.

Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson carried floral tributes into the Capela da Ressurreicao bearing 20 and 30 to mark Jota and Silva’s shirt numbers.

Alexis Mac Allister, Ibrahima Konate, Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa and Curtis Jones were also part of the delegation that came from Anfield.

Former Reds players Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Caoimhin Kelleher, Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho also paid respects to the fallen 28-year-old.

Two of Jurgen Klopp’s assistants during his time as Liverpool manager made the trip in Pepijn Lijnders and Vitor Matos among the widespread mourners.

Alisson sent his condolences ahead of the funeral, explaining that he was unable to attend due to being ‘separated by an ocean’ in his native Brazil.
