Liverpool are planning to accept new bids for Darwin Nunez this summer and are inviting offers after his move to Napoli collapsed.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about alternative interest in the 26-year-old and his long-term future at Anfield.

Arne Slot does not view the striker as a part of his plans for the upcoming season and is “desperate” to cash in on him before the window closes.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 6 June that Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool this summer as they seek to upgrade in the centre-forward role.

Football Insider previously revealed Liverpool plan to sell Nunez to raise funds to support what has been a huge-spending window so far.

However, interested clubs are reluctant to spend big money on a permanent transfer this summer and are instead hoping to agree loan deals for his signature.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 1 July that Liverpool will cut Nunez’s price tag later in the window if no permanent offers arrive.

The money raised from Nunez’s sale would go towards the signing of Alexander Isak, with his exit set to clear space in the squad for the Newcastle striker.

However, O’Rourke explained that Liverpool’s desperation to cash in on the Uruguay international means clubs are now aiming to take advantage of the situation.

“Darwin Nunez does not figure in Arne Slot’s plans,” he told Football Insider.

“Liverpool were hoping they could sell him to Napoli, but that deal fell through, so they’re waiting on other clubs to come in for Nunez.

“Those other clubs interested in the Uruguayan know that Liverpool are desperate to offload him, so they’re holding out to see if they can get him on loan.

“There are a lot of dominos to fall into place for this deal to happen.

“Now that Luis Diaz is gone, that’s money Liverpool have got in the kitty to put towards Alexander Isak.

“If Nunez were to go as well, it would clear space in the squad and give them the money to go and tempt Newcastle with a new bid to sign him.”

While speculation surrounding Nunez’s future continues, Liverpool are making contingency plans in case they cannot agree a deal to sign Isak.

Football Insider revealed on 3 August that Liverpool are interested in signing Rodrygo, but are currently focusing everything on reaching an agreement with Newcastle for Isak.

Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso still sees the Brazil international as a key part of his plans for the upcoming season and he is expected to remain in Madrid as things stand.

This comes as Football Insider revealed Real Madrid will demand Liverpool pay £100million for the winger – forcing them to prioritise other options.
