Loan spells are often invaluable to players looking for regular playing time.
Sometimes that does not materialize, as players need to stay to allow the first team squad to have depth.
However, this can result in limited amount of playing time as the player acts as a filler rather than a key member.
Despite all the euphoria that has come with Liverpool’s Premier League title win this season, some individuals in the team may feel a tinge of disappointment that they haven’t contributed to it in the way they would’ve liked to.
Sitting down for an interview at St.
George’s Park, a player who has particularly struggled this year has opened up on what has been the ‘toughest season mentally’ for him at Liverpool so far.
Tyler Morton will be looking to put the disappointment of the season behind him as he looks towards the U21 European Championships with England.
Morton made only 11 appearances this season.
He did not appear once in the Premier League as his teammates charged to the title.
Speaking whilst on international duty with the U21’s, he said:
“I think it’s been the toughest season mentally for me.”
“Obviously, I’ve coped with it very well because I’ve got good people around me, but it’s been very tough.”
“I think when you’re not playing as a footballer who’s as hungry as I am, it does hurt.”
“It’s tough, especially when, in my opinion, I wanted to go out and I wanted to play and I wanted to go on loan and get my gametime.”
“But it’s still been a good season.
I’ve still developed and, as you said, I still feel really sharp and really ready to go.”
Morton’s positive attitude despite the setbacks he’s faced this season is admirable.
He will be hoping to use the U21’s European Championships as a springboard to get himself back into Arne Slot’s plan for next season.
