The Reds are preparing to defend their Premier League title and big things have been happening to give them the best chance at doing just that.

Liverpool have spent plenty of money to strengthen their squad and some of their new arrivals are nothing short of breathtaking, with Florian Wirtz the pick of the bunch.

Arne Slot appears to have something of a super team on his hands and the pressure to perform is now greater than ever, something he will likely relish.

Change behind the scenes has also been happening and it is something that could have a huge impact next season, with one decision the Dutchman has made leaving the players rather curious.

Sometimes fans may not realise the influence that certain backroom staff have on a team until they have departed, and the impact of John Heitinga’s departure has certainly been felt.

Many of the players were quick to praise the former Evertonian on their social media when he left to become the new head coach of Ajax, highlighting just how loved he was.

However, Slot has decided to replace him with fellow Dutchman Giovanni van Bronckhorst in a move that appears to be a smart one, especially as all the players seem to approve, particularly Cody Gakpo.

“I think he can teach us a lot from what he experienced in his career, as a player and as a manager.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona full-back will be the third-in-command behind Slot and Sipke Hulshoff, although his role should not be underestimated.

Despite a relatively underwhelming time as manager of Rangers and then a very bad spell at Besiktas, van Bronckhorst is a very good signing.

Journalist Lewis Steele previously revealed that people close to him believe van Bronckhorst has a good eye for detail and is a very good ‘people person’.

He will also command respect due to his illustrious playing career and players will certainly listen to what he says, exactly what you want from one of the men in charge.

As one of the best full-backs of his generation, van Bronckhorst can also help the likes of Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong settle in and also improve, suggesting it is a good move all round.
