Liverpool has posted an almost immediate response after news emerged of a rejected approach from Barcelona for Luis Diaz.

The winger’s future has been the subject of much speculation for well over a year now, with links to a move to the Camp Nou and Saudi Arabia appearing once again this summer.

Diaz is under contract at Anfield for another two years, although he remains on the same deal he signed upon arriving from Porto in January 2022, meaning improved terms are perhaps overdue, and leading to suggestions that Liverpool could look to move him on soon as Arne Slot looks ahead to next season, with Florian Wirtz looking to be closing in on a move to Anfield.

Despite those rumors, Liverpool is showing no appetite to sell Diaz under any circumstances this summer.

According to The Athletic, an approach from Barcelona has been rebuffed, with the Reds adamant the 28-year-old is not for sale.

The La Liga champion is said to have contacted Liverpool on Wednesday about the possibility of signing Diaz, with the club’s sporting director Deco having previously admitted they are interested in him.

Liverpool has stood firm though, with Slot said to be planning for next season with Diaz as part of his squad.

Just minutes after the news broke, Liverpool posted pictures of Diaz in training with Colombia to its X account, with the timing of the response not going unnoticed by fans.

Despite the Reds not wanting to sell Diaz this summer, it also looks unlikely that the winger will be getting a new contract any time soon.

It’s suggested that no progress has been made over a new deal, despite Diaz having claimed talks would take place, with Liverpool happy to let him run down his final two years.

Speaking to Telemundo last month, Diaz said: “Since the first day I arrived, I’ve always been happy, calm, enjoying the football played at this great team.

“We’ll be talking about it [about renewing], we’ll talk about it
