Liverpool's players will begin their preparations for the new season today (Tuesday, July 8) as pre-season training kicks off at the AXA Training Center.

Of course, the start of the 2025-26 campaign is not at the forefront of players' or fans' minds right now, as the club continues to come to terms with last week's tragic passing of Diogo Jota.

It has only been five days since the Liverpool forward died alongside his brother in a car crash in Spain, as he journeyed back to England by road ahead of a planned return to the club alongside his teammates this week.

On Sunday, Liverpool is scheduled to contest its first pre-season friendly, against Preston North End, but players and staff will be consulted this week before a decision is taken on whether that game goes ahead.

There is a 13-day gap between the Preston game and Liverpool's second scheduled pre-season friendly, which is the first game of the Reds' pre-season tour of Asia, against AC Milan in Hong Kong on July 26.
