Jonathan David has been named one of the players Liverpool could sign this summer.
It has been widely reported in several quarters that the Reds will be in the market for a new striker this summer.
Arbe Slot is expected to tweak his current squad a bit, and Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota could be the casualties.
Both players have endured indifferent seasons in front of goal, resulting in Slot playing winger Luis Diaz through the middle.
Jota had a good return initially in the season.
But a few inury niggles has hampered his season and his output.
The Portuguese international has made just 36 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season, scoring nine times and assisting four.
Meanwhile, despite being fit throughout the season, Nunez has been limited to 17 starts for Liverpool this season, scoring seven goals and registering seven assists in 45 appearances in all competitions.
However, the Uruguayan is expected to leave Anfield this summer, with Atletico Madrid, Napoli and several clubs in Saudi Arabia credited with serious interest in him.
His imminent departure, as well as a possible exit for Jota, means Liverpool are in the market for a replacement.
Among the players they have looked at is Jonathan David.
The Canadian international, who has scored 25 goals in 48 appearances this season, is expected to leave Lille at the end of this season when his contract expires?
Liverpool has been named as one of the likely clubs he will join this summer.
In January, David Ornstein confirmed that Liverpool were interested in him, while a follow-up report in January claimed the club had sent in a bid for the 25-year-old.
With the summer transfer window now months away, there is a new report on the matter of Liverpool’s interest.
According to Interlive.it, several clubs have moved ahead of Liverpool in the race for David.
The report claims that Napoli have established contact with the player, while Liverpool are “a little more on the sidelines today.”
The report also adds that Inter Milan are keen on the player, but despite “months of contacts and waiting, the deal (for the player) is not yet close to closing, given that there is still no agreement on the salary and the figures for commissions and bonuses to the figure remain quite high.”
