Joe Gomez has returned to Liverpool from Hong Kong to begin treatment on an Achilles injury.
The injury ruled him out of the remaining fixtures of the Reds’ Asia pre-season tour.
The defender, who featured in friendlies against Preston and Stoke, was expected to continue building fitness in matches against AC Milan and Yokohama F.
However, Gomez did not train with the squad during their stay in Hong Kong and was later confirmed to be struggling with a minor issue.
Speaking to Liverpool FC, Arne Slot explained the decision to send Gomez back to the UK:
“He had some Achilles problems.
We thought it was better to assess it back in England and for him to work on coming back in more ideal circumstances.”

Slot also emphasized that the club remains optimistic about Gomez’s return timeline.
“We hope and expect to have him back soon,” the manager added.
Joe Gomez remains a key defensive option for Arne Slot’s Liverpool squad ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
He will now undergo a tailored recovery program at the AXA Training Centre as the Reds prioritize his fitness and availability for the upcoming campaign, which includes crucial domestic and European fixtures on the horizon.
The 28-year-old had been hoping for a strong pre-season after last year’s campaign was disrupted by a persistent hamstring injury.
Now, he’ll aim to complete his recovery at the AXA Training Centre before the Premier League season kicks off.
While it’s another frustrating interruption for the versatile defender, Liverpool are confident this setback is only temporary and expect him back in team training shortly.
