Liverpool have been splashing the cash in the transfer window, but they've also managed to recoup a substantial portion of their summer expenditure through player sales, including Tyler Morton's move to Lyon.

The Premier League champions have significantly bolstered the squad that made Arne Slot's first season at the helm memorable by securing the services of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike this summer.

However, these deals have come with a hefty price tag, with Wirtz alone costing a British record £116million.

Additional signings are anticipated before next month's transfer deadline, with player departures helping to finance them.

Morton's transfer to Lyon has earned Liverpool a tidy £15m, including add-ons.

The Reds also hold a 20 per cent sell-on clause and stand to gain if the young midfielder excels in France and secures another move.

Morton joins Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, Nat Phillips, Jarell Quansah and Luis Diaz in exiting Anfield this summer, with those transactions generating a whopping £145m, reports the Mirror.

More departures are on the cards.

Darwin Nunez has agreed terms for a move to Al-Hilal, which will see the Saudi Pro League club fork out £46m, a figure that could increase substantially due to add-ons.

Federico Chiesa is set to follow Nunez out the door after barely featuring under Slot following his bargain transfer from Juventus last summer.

Liverpool could utilise the funds from their recent player sales to secure their prime transfer target before 1 September: Alexander Isak.

The Newcastle forward is reportedly open to a move to Anfield this summer, but his current club are reluctant to part ways with their leading striker.

However, relations between Newcastle and the 25 year old Swedish international have reportedly deteriorated after he travelled to Spain for solo training last week.

Isak was told to train alone on Wednesday and was notably absent from a team-family bonding event earlier in the day.

Newcastle are unwilling to consider selling unless they can secure high-quality replacements, but it seems they're set to lose out on Benjamin Sesko, with the Slovenian striker leaning towards a move to Manchester United.

The Magpies' search for attacking reinforcements has been fraught with difficulties during this summer's transfer window, having missed out on Ekitike, Liam Delap and Bryan Mbeumo.
