Liverpool have reportedly made a huge headway in their attempt to sign Hugo Ekitike having reached an ‘outline agreement’ with Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Reds are looking to secure a deal for the striker after making him one of their major targets for the No.
9 position this summer.
Liverpool emerged as the front runners for Ekitike’ s signature, overtaking the likes of Newcastle, Chelsea and Manchester United in the race for the France U21 forward.
Arne Slot’s side have already taken concrete steps in getting the deal over the line.
But they saw their first bid for the striker swiftly rejected by Eintracht Frankfurt, who are keen to get a premium from their star forward, who scored 22 goals last season.
The Reds, however, did not give up in their attempts to sign Ekitike, and they returned with an improved bid that could see Frankfut earn up to €90m for the Frenchman.
According to the latest report by reliable journalist David Ornstein, while there is no final agreement between Liverpool and Frankfurt, there is progress in discussions.
Writing for The Athletic, the reporter said “The outline of an agreement is in place between Liverpool and Eintracht Frankfurt for the proposed transfer of forward Hugo Ekitike.
“Work is still needed to formally get the deal done and that is expected in the next day or so.”
The report also clarified the offer Liverpool have tabled for Ekitike?
According to Ornstein, Liverpool could pay Frankfurt more than €95m for the Frenchman, which will make him the club’s biggest sale, ahead of Randal Kolo Muani, who was sold for £82.3m in 2023.
If all add-ons within the impending move are realised, there is optimism at Frankfurt that it would represent a club-record sale — surpassing the €95million (£82.3m, $110.5m) achieved when Randal Kolo Muani switched to Paris Saint-Germain in 2023.
