Isak is not participating in Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia as he explores a move away from St James’ Park and Liverpool are the front runners to sign the 25-year-old.

Liverpool have already signed striker Hugo Ekitike and forward Florian Wirtz in this window, but ambitious manager Arne Slot wants to make a statement with the signing of Isak.

The Uruguay international struggled to make the Liverpool starting XI last season and with the options now at Slot’s disposal the 26-year-old would struggle for match minutes.

Nunez has been linked with a move away this summer and according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein Al Hilal have identified him as a “priority target” in this window and are pushing to sign the Liverpool striker, although no bid has yet to be made.

Isak’s ruthless Premier League goal scoring record is the opposite of Nunez’s hit and miss statistics in-front of goal.

Nunez arrived having been a prevalent goal scoring in Portugal, but he has failed to bring that form over to the Premier League.

Trying to fit Isak into the Liverpool team will be a welcome dilemma for Slot or it could prove that he has one of the best game changing benches in the division which Nunez would struggle to fit into.

Slot will be under pressure next season, even after the Premier League title triumph, if he signs Isak as Liverpool would be expected to improve on last season’s incredible campaign.

The Dutchman though wants the Champions League and having a plethora of different attacking options will make his side unpredictable and almost impossible to stop.

Isak has Champions League experience at Newcastle and has proven to be a big game player, even scoring against Liverpool in the League Cup final last season.

More outgoings could be on the cards if Liverpool want to go all out for Isak with duo Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton set to leave whilst Ibrahima Konate’s future is still uncertain.
