Liverpool could emerge as the frontrunners in the race to sign PSV Eindhoven forward Donyell Malen over the coming days, with Borussia Dortmund set to miss out on the 22-year-old's services, according to reports.

Malen has reportedly been identified as a solution to the attacking woes that saw Jurgen Klopp's side slip to a third-placed finish in the Premier League last time around.

Despite their desire to land Malen this summer, it seems as though the Reds could be poised to win the chase for the former Arsenal man's signature.

JUST IN: What Liverpool have told Fulham during Harry Wilson transfer talks.

Personal terms have already been agreed between Malen and Dortmund, but his agent is believed to be holding out for a total transfer fee that could exceed £34m, according to Bild-Zeitung.

This could threaten to pour cold water on the possibility of a move to the Westfalenstadion this summer, with the Bundesliga giants reportedly unprepared to shell out any more than £26m. DON'T MISS. If the deal falls through, Liverpool could be inclined to swoop in and bring Malen to Anfield.

The Reds have signed just one player this summer in the form of Ibrahima Konate for a £34m fee, and it remains to be seen whether they will be prepared to part ways with the same figure once again to land Malen.
