Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed his concern that Liverpool's blistering start to the season could make it "impossible to catch them".

Currently, the reigning champions are five points ahead of Arsenal, seven points clear of Chelsea, and eight points above City.

This comes after Liverpool invested over £400million in new talent, breaking the British transfer record twice to secure Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak and the Blues boss now fears that the Reds may be pulling too far ahead, even after just a matter of weeks.

He stated: "If they continue in this way I think it is impossible to catch them, not just for us, but for all the clubs.

They have been doing a fantastic job since last year, and the players they have decided to buy shows the intention of the club to go again for the Premier League and the Champions League, and that is quite clear."

Liverpool's flawless beginning to the campaign has carried over into European competition.

Despite throwing away a 2-0 advantage, the English side emerged victorious in added time when Virgil van Dijk nodded in the decisive goal.

The Reds are aiming to secure back-to-back league crowns for the first time since the 1980s and have positioned themselves ideally at this early stage.

Doubts are being raised about Mikel Arteta following another summer of heavy investment, but he's still to find the perfect winning recipe from his deep squad.
