With the summer transfer window rapidly approaching, Liverpool’s recruitment staff have no doubt been working tirelessly for many months to ensure targets are identified and line-up before the window even officially opens.

We’ve already had reports of Reds scouts going as far as Argentina to watch River Plate wonderkid Franco Mastantuono.

The club’s scouts have also recently been at 2025 CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations to watch Ivory Coast defender Obli Kouamé Jean Medéric, whose performances have sparked a continental scouting race.

And it seems the club is continuing this theme of trying to pick up premium talent locally before they are bought by ‘smaller’ European clubs and sold at mark-up prices.

Lewis Steele, writing in the Daily Mail’s Liverpool Confidential, has reported that the club’s scouts are currently at the Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations to oversee the talent on display.

The 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations is currently taking place in Egypt from April 27 to May 18, featuring 13 teams competing across three groups in cities including Cairo, Ismailia, and Suez.

This prestigious tournament not only crowns the continent’s top youth team but also serves as a qualifier for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year, with the four semi-finalists earning a spot on the global stage.

Among the standout performers are players like Momoh Kamara of Sierra Leone, who leads the scoring charts with four goals, and Ivory Coast defender Obli Kouamé Jean Medéric, who impressed at the recent U-17 Africa Cup of Nations as already mentioned.

Steele adds that youth recruitment is a top priority for Liverpool’s new management team, who have strengthened their scouting and player development staff significantly in recent months.

So far in 2025, the club has appointed a global talent scout, a regional scout covering the Netherlands and Belgium, and two additional scouts focused on other parts of Europe.

In addition, Liverpool has enhanced their loan system by bringing in a loan pathway lead and a loan performance analyst to better manage player development.

Recently, scouts attended an RB Leipzig match and have been monitoring clubs worldwide, including Real Betis and River Plate according to the report.
