Liverpool have agreed personal terms with young striker Hugo Ekitike after fending off strong interest from Premier League rivals Newcastle United, and will now be working on agreeing a fee with Frankfurt.
The move means Arne Slot's side will continue their exciting summer transfer window with some quality talent coming in - and fans in the Liverpool Echo comments section are pleased to see the work the club has been doing.
Ekitike has just enjoyed a strong season in the Bundesliga, catching the eye of top clubs in the Premier League and beyond, and living up to the promise that once convinced French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain to buy him for a team that already featured Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe at the time.
The French striker has an £86 million release clause, but Liverpool now look to have a clean run to negotiate a more favourable fee or structure after seeing Newcastle United cool their interest in the 23-year-old.

A successful transfer could force the issue on the futures of other players in the Liverpool squad, like Darwin Nunez or Federico Chiesa, who could find themselves falling down the pecking order and seeking guaranteed playing time elsewhere.
For now, many fans are pleased to see Liverpool continuing to reinforce their team, even comparing him to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in his playing style, with some left wondering what will happen next to those that could leave this summer.
Yes, Isak is a good striker and as they say in Newcastle, 'shy bairns get nowt' so we had to ask the question of them about him.
"Can't believe people think Nunez should stay and be given more chances.
Considering I don't think we need anyone else, he's quite a bonus gift in my opinion."
Bliy says: "I’m not disappointed we get Ekitike instead of Isak.
