Fresh from his best-ever attacking return in a single season, Mohamed Salah will be hoping for a record-breaking, trophy-winning 2025/26.

However, Liverpool are certain to encounter a problem with the Egyptian along the way.

Salah recorded a combined 57 goals and assists in all competitions as the Reds as they stormed their way to the Premier League title.

In doing so he bettered his previous peak total from 2017/18, smashing countless records along the way and notably moving up to third on Liverpool's all-time top scorer charts.

His importance can't be understated - a huge factor in the reason Liverpool did all they could to sign the 33-year-old to a two-year contract extension.

The next edition of the tournament is scheduled to take place in Morocco between December 21, 2025, and January 18, 2026.

Also Egypt's talisman, Salah will no doubt be expected to lead the charge for his country aiming to claim their eighth continental, but only their first since 2010.

The Pharaohs are destined to play three group stage matches from the competition's start through to New Years' Eve.

During this festive period Salah is set to miss three Premier League fixtures vs Tottenham Hotspur (A), Wolves (H) and Leeds United (H).

But that is only at minimum as Egypt are typically one of the stronger countries involved and they would be tipped to travel deep into AFCON if they do not end up winning the entire thing.

With the full knockout stages included Salah would miss three more English top-flight matches against Fulham (A), Arsenal (A) and Burnley (H).

All eyes will be on that trip to face the Gunners in particular with the potential for it to play a huge part in the next title race.

Additionally, the FA have confirmed the FA Cup third round dates to clash with AFCON, falling on the weekend of January 10/11, 2026, plus UEFA's schedule for the Champions League places the penultimate league phase fixtures to be on January 20/21, 2026.

Therefore in total Salah could end up missing eight Liverpool fixtures due to AFCON.

Solace the Reds can take from this unfortunate scenario is that rivals are also set to be disadvantaged.
