Liverpool could to secure themselves a share over £260m next summer following a major announcement by FIFA.

The game’s organisers have unveiled a revamped Club Benefits Programme that sees clubs compensated for released players for FIFA tournaments.

FIFA put aside around £153m for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and it has been confirmed that even more funds are up for grabs for the next edition.

In an announcement on Tuesday, FIFA and the European Club Association have confirmed that their package has increased by around 70% for next summer’s tournament.

“The enhanced edition of the FIFA Club Benefits Programme for the FIFA World Cup 2026 is going a step further by recognising financially the huge contribution that so many clubs and their players around the world make to the staging of both the qualifiers and the final tournament,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

"A record USD 355 million (£260m) will be distributed to clubs for the release of their players, and this reinforces our solid collaboration with the European Club Association and clubs worldwide as we all look forward to a groundbreaking and globally inclusive edition of the FIFA World Cup next year."

ECA Chairman, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, added: "At ECA we are pleased to have collaborated with FIFA to support the development of this innovative new FIFA Club Benefits Programme.

It will ensure even more clubs across the world are rewarded for releasing players and highlights exactly how ECA’s Memorandum of Understanding with FIFA supports the ongoing growth of the global club game.

"Clubs play a pivotal role in the success of national team football and this initiative recognises every element of it, from early development through to release for the most important games.

"We look forward to continuing to work closely with FIFA, and the global football community, to ensure we keep driving growth and development of international football."

Liverpool will of course will not receive all of the huge war chest put aside by FIFA but will be confident of earning a decent amount.

For the first time, clubs are set to be rewarded for releasing their players for qualifiers for the World Cup.

And as it stands, a whole host of players under Arne Slot’s watch are hopeful of playing at the tournament.

And their chances of playing have increased considerably due to another decision from FIFA.

For the first time, 48 teams will qualify for the main tournament, while 18 teams have already sealed their spots.

That includes Japan, Argentina and Brazil - current stars like Alisson Becker, Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister are all potentially set to represent those nations.
