Liverpool’s annual ‘Run For the 96’ will be virtual this year, just as it was in 2020, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ongoing social distancing measures in place across the country will prevent large groups gathering for the 5K course around the city.

Though, a benefit of the run being made digital is the ability for people living anywhere in the world to enter – with a healthy 600 participants already signed up, as per Explore Liverpool.

Those who take part in the run will have a chance to win a special Liverpool shirt signed by Jamie Carragher, which is an added bonus for Reds fans.

Runners outside the UK are being urged to sign up as soon as possible to afford organisers enough time to send out packs with a number to wear and commemorative medal.

The annual run started back in 2015, to honour the 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster, and has been a success each year, with over £30,000 raised for charities thus far.
