Liverpool are preparing to launch a major striker signing after with Darwin Nunez allowed to leave Anfield this summer.

The Reds have made it clear that Nunez’s time at Liverpool is coming to an end, with multiple clubs expressing interest in the Uruguayan who has failed to live up to expectations since arriving from Benfica in 2022

With Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr interested, as well as Atletico Madrid, Napoli, and AC Milan in Europe, Liverpool are now actively preparing for life without their big-money signing.

Liverpool is expected to demand a fee of at least £70 million for Nunez, matching the valuation that Al-Nassr were prepared to offer in January.

As a result, the Anfield club is engaged in talks with various strikers.

Alexander Isak remains Liverpool’s preferred striker target, but the Swedish international appears virtually impossible to pry away from Newcastle United this summer.

The 25-year-old had a standout 2024/25 campaign, scoring 27 goals in 42 appearances and helping Newcastle secure Champions League qualification.

Newcastle’s strong negotiating position makes any deal extremely difficult for Liverpool to complete.

The Magpies have set a valuation of £150 million+ for their star striker, while Isak still has three years remaining on his contract until 2028

Hugo Ekitike has emerged as a more realistic target for Liverpool after his breakthrough season with Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 22-year-old French striker scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions this past season.

Meanwhile, we exclusively revealed last month that RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is a serious candidate for the Reds, with the Slovenian international open to a move to Anfield.

RB Leipzig have set a valuation of €100 million (£84.2 million) for Sesko, though they could be willing to accept a lower amount to preserve their relationship with the player

Leipzig’s failure to qualify for European competition and their need to balance the books could work in Liverpool’s favor.

The German club are expected to be active in the transfer market and may be forced to sell their star assets to fund their own recruitment drive.

The funds generated from Nunez’s sale will be crucial in Liverpool’s pursuit of a new striker, with the club needing to balance significant investment in other areas including the record-breaking deal for Florian Wirtz.
