Leicester City are close to completing a deal to sign Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, according to reports. Brendan Rodgers looks set to raid his former club ahead Arsenal and Roma.

This comes from The Mail. They say that Leicester are leading the race for the in-demand France under-21’s international. However, should Liverpool also be in the running for Edouard?

Well, we certainly think that Liverpool could be missing a trick by not at least considering the former Paris Saint Germain prodigy.

Jurgen Klopp, after all, has seen a major drop-off in terms of goalscoring output from his established front-three this season.

Roberto Firmino, especially has seen a noticeable dip with just six goals in his last 37 appearances.

Divock Origi, meanwhile, has just one goal to his name in 2020/21 and that came against Lincoln City in the League Cup.

Liverpool have a need

So, it doesn’t take a forensic investigation to pinpoint that Liverpool would benefit from some added firepower up-front.

In fact, Edouard is as prolific as they come in terms of viable targets within the Reds’ immediate financial reach. With 20 goals in 32 appearances this season, Liverpool could be missing out on a potential bargain by refusing not to at least explore the option of the talented Celtic forward.

Also, Edouard is only 23 years of age and is very-much still in the development stage of his career. He has clocked up 85 goals and 35 assists during his time in Glasgow, which is a stunning total given his age.

With Celtic braced to appoint a new manager at the end of the season, the Hoops are likely to see somewhat of a rebuild to bridge the gap between themselves and Rangers.

Selling Edouard could go a long way in raising funds to utilise throughout the squad. At £15m, it’s unlikely Klopp or Michael Edwards will find a better deal in terms of value for money.

Given the previous player that Liverpool brought to Anfield following a successful tenure at Celtic Park was Virgil van Dijk, it certainly could be worth a gamble from Klopp’s perspecitve.
