Liverpool FC has completed the signing of Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a British record transfer deal worth £125 million, breaking the previous record of £115 million for Moises Caicedo in 2023.
Isak has signed a six-year contract and will wear the No 9 shirt at Anfield. This transfer takes Liverpool’s total spending for the summer to £446 million, with £228 million recouped in sales, resulting in a net spend of £218 million.

The transfer ends a long and highly publicized saga, during which Isak had expressed frustration with Newcastle’s broken promises and had actively sought to leave, refusing to join the team’s preseason tour or feature this season.
Isak made 109 appearances for Newcastle since joining from Real Sociedad in 2022. On his move to Liverpool, he said, "It's been a long journey to get here, but I'm super happy to be a part of this team... I think I have a lot to give and improve. I want to win everything."
This is Liverpool’s second record-breaking signing this summer, following the acquisition of German forward Florian Wirtz for an initial £100 million plus add-ons. The club’s ambition to strengthen their squad for ongoing Premier League and European competition is clear from these significant investments.
Alongside other high-profile transfers in the Premier League on deadline day, Isak's signing highlights Liverpool’s aggressive strategy to reclaim competitive dominance. His arrival is expected to enhance their attacking options substantially.
