Liverpool have been ravaged by injuries this season. The Reds have lost most of their first team to illness and injuries this term, some are unlikely to feature again this term. Kopites have urged the Reds to buy a centre back in January but the summer is looking more likely. Here are three reasons why Liverpool signing Ben White in the summer makes sense:

Liverpool have been linked with dozens of defenders in recent seasons.

The Reds have been rumoured to be interested in centre backs from across the continent. The Liverpool ECHO have confirmed Ben White is a target, the Daily Star believe Brighton want £40m for the defender.

However, Liverpool signing Ben White would eliminate one huge risk: adapting to the Premier League.

Sure, Dayot Upamecano and Perr Schuurs are fantastic footballers.

But you can never account for the switch to the Prem. Better, brighter and more experienced footballers have come to England to find they can’t make the switch.

Ben White has experience in the Championship and the Premier League, we know he can cope.

Time to grow

Liverpool like to sign players who will grow during their time at Anfield.

At just 23-years-old, Ben White has plenty of time to develop as a footballer.

The defender has a decade in the game ahead of him, we will get plenty of use out of him and the club can mould him in their image.

Going for a more experienced centre back may offer more short term success but the long term benefits of signing a player of Ben White’s age would be a wiser move in the grand scheme of things.

Joe Gomez link up

If the Brighton star continues on his current trajectory then he will likely feature in the England team in the coming years.

Joe Gomez is already an established England international.

The Reds could benefit from the pair linking up for the national side as well as at club level.

Gomez and White would likely go on to be our first choice pairing in the years to come after Virgil van Dijk retires; having them play together for club and country would strengthen their chemistry on and off the pitch.
