Summer Will Wright made his Liverpool debut while goalkeeper Armin Pecsi - who was with Arne Slot's first team squad during their pre-season tour of Asia - was handed his first start in a Reds shirt as Rob Page’s Under-21s drew 0-0 with Hull City at the Academy on Saturday.

The young Reds - wearing the club’s new Adidas home kit for the first time - named an experienced starting XI including Calvin Ramsay, Rhys Williams and Lewis Koumas and created the better opportunities in the first half.

Keyrol Figueroa came close to opening the scoring after being picked out by the Wales international, only to see the Tigers keeper tip his long-range curling effort over the bar.

Ramsay - who has been allocated the number 47 first team shirt after summer signing Hugo Ekitike took over his number 22 jersey - then went close moments later with a fine bit of skill, flicking the ball over his opponents’ head before running on and shooting hard across goal.

However, the Hull shot-stopper got down low to keep his strike out.

The Tigers goalkeeper continued to frustrate the Reds as he denied Koumas after he was released by Kareem Ahmed, while Figueroa would narrowly shoot wide as Liverpool hit Hull on the counter before the interval.

Hull fought back after the break as they clipped the crossbar with a long-range effort, before Ramsay was alert to deny a certain goal soon after with a superb headed clearance off the line.

Liverpool changed all 10 outfielders on the hour-mark as Wright - who has joined the club in an initial £200k deal from League Two Salford City - was introduced to make his Reds debut.

The likes of Kaide Gordon, Trent Kone-Doherty and Kieran Morrison were also brought on and all three came close to making an instant impact.

Gordon cut into the box with a mazy dribble from the right-hand side only to shoot too close to the goalkeeper, while Kone-Doherty and Morrison would both shoot over from good positions.

Tommy Pilling was later denied as his volleyed effort was kept out by the goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Wright came agonisingly close to making a dream debut as he reacted quickly to a deflected shot in the box.

Getting his own strike off later, only the scrambling efforts of the sprawling goalkeeper managed to keep his effort out on the and deny him a late winner.

The stalemate means Liverpool’s unbeaten pre-season continues, having won 8-0 against Celtic, drawn 1-1 with the Wigan Athletic first team and won 3-1 away at RC Lens in their previous friendlies to date.
