On this day in 2014, news broke that former Liverpool attacker Albert Riera's contract with Udinese was being terminated.
Reports at the time suggested he was 'sacked' by Udinese for unusual reasons, with the Daily Mail claiming: "[He] has been allowed to leave after being accused of skipping their game against Chievo on November 23 to play poker in Slovenia, where he won £3,000 for finishing second."

The history of football isn’t littered with men who talked their way out of clubs with ill-advised interviews, but Albert Riera’s brief Liverpool career effectively ended in this unlikely fashion.
He had joined the Italian side after a spell with Galatasaray in Turkey, via a loan stint at Watford.
