Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have argued that Liverpool are still adapting to club-record signing Florian Wirtz and the tactical changes brought about by Arne Slot recruiting the German playmaker.

The Reds have won both of their Premier League games but faced issues in each match.

They've defeated Bournemouth and Newcastle so far this season but struggled to achieve the right balance between defence and attack.

The Reds surrendered a two-goal advantage in both matches before Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha intervened to restore their side's lead in the separate outings.

Despite his hefty £116million price tag, Liverpool striking a deal for Wirtz was regarded as a coup, given his star performances for Bayer Leverkusen and Germany.

However, Gary Lineker has questioned whether the midfielder's arrival has contributed to the Reds' early problems.

"Do you think the presence of Florian Wirtz, and the slightly different style that he gives [is causing a problem], because he's more of a 10, isn't he," Lineker asked on The Rest Is Football podcast, via Liverpool.com.

They're finding it difficult to get him into the game, they're certainly more open."

Micah Richards echoed his co-hosts' thoughts, but believes Liverpool will soon see Wirtz at his best.

I think Wirtz will come good," Richards said.

"I think he's just used to playing a different style of football.
