Liverpool FC is honoring the late Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, with a series of heartfelt tributes following their tragic deaths in a car accident on July 3, 2025. The club has retired Jota’s No. 20 shirt across all levels, including the women’s and youth teams, as a mark of respect.
During their pre-season tour in Asia, Liverpool players wore a special temporary tribute on their shirts displaying “Diogo J. 20” between the club badge and the Nike logo, first seen in the match against AC Milan and again against Yokohama F. Marinos. Starting with the launch of their new Adidas kits on August 1, a permanent “Forever 20” emblem will be featured on all players’ shirts and stadium jackets throughout the 2025/26 season, although this emblem will not appear on supporters’ replica kits. Fans, however, can choose to have “Diogo J. 20” printed on their shirts, with proceeds going to the LFC Foundation, which plans to set up a grassroots football program in his name.
Further tributes include floral arrangements laid before kickoff at matches in Tokyo and Anfield, a minute’s silence before the first Premier League game of the season on August 15, and a special mosaic created by supporters at the pre-season games. Sir Kenny Dalglish notably laid a wreath prior to kickoff in Hong Kong to honor Jota, with the crowd forming a mosaic reading “DJ 20.”
Additionally, Liverpool has announced a permanent memorial will be established at Anfield, incorporating items left by fans such as flowers, scarves, cards, and banners. This memorial will serve as a lasting tribute to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva, reflecting the deep collective grief of the club, its supporters, and the football community.
