Jarell Quansah began the 2024/25 season as a legitimate contender with Ibrahima Konate to nail down a spot next to Virgil van Dijk in the starting XI under Arne Slot.

Having started the opening game against Ipswich Town, the 22-year-old was substituted off at half-time and never regained that kind of footing in the side since.

Quansah managed just 488 minutes across 13 Premier League appearances in 2024-25, a significant drop from the 1,190 minutes he accumulated in 17 appearances during his breakthrough 2023-24 campaign

The 22-year-old’s total appearances across all competitions dropped from 31 in 2023-24 to just 25 in 2024-25, with only 13 of those being starts compared to his previous season’s tally.

His Champions League involvement was similarly limited, appearing in just four matches with only 229 minutes of action

Bayer Leverkusen have emerged as the most serious suitors for Quansah’s signature, with the German club placing him on their shortlist for defensive reinforcements following Jonathan Tah’s departure to Bayern Munich.

Newcastle United have also maintained their interest in Quansah following failed attempts to sign him last summer, with the Magpies reportedly offering assurances of regular playing time.

The club had multiple bids rejected for the defender previously and are now among several Premier League sides monitoring his situation.

With that in mind, the Athletic have now revealed that the academy product could be sold if the right offer comes in, but he won’t come cheap at over for interested parties at over £40million:

“For the right money, yes.

Although they are not actively looking to sell,” reporter Gregg Evans wrote.

“The 22-year-old is valued at over £40million and has potential suitors, with Leverkusen showing the strongest interest.”

“Liverpool used Quansah largely as a backup option behind Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate last season, but recognise that he still has plenty of potential,” it’s explained.

“It’s why they won’t let the England Under-21 international, who earned a call-up to the senior squad last year, leave on the cheap.”

“Quansah does want to play more minutes next season, though.”

Any sale of Quansah would represent pure profit for Liverpool due to his homegrown status, having joined the club’s academy at age five.

The defender signed a new long-term contract in October 2024, extending his deal until 2030, which strengthens Liverpool’s negotiating position.

Speaking while on duty with England, Quansah remarked on his future:

“It’s definitely developing.
