According to the Daily Mail, and now backed up by various other outlets, the striker has informed his current club he wants to explore other options this summer, having been the subject of an approach by Liverpool already.

Newcastle has remained firm in its stance that Isak is not for sale, although the 25-year-old has now put the Magpies into a distinctly weaker position.

The development might not come as a surprise to many, given it has looked on the cards for the past few days now.

It now appears there is much more behind the decision, and Newcastle could now face having to make a U-turn on its stance, which will almost certainly have Liverpool interested.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Isak remains a target for the Reds even after the signing of Ekitike, although any move would obviously depend on Newcastle opening the door to a move.

It always felt like a distinct possibility that Isak might force something through, but for it to happen so soon after Liverpool made an approach does make it seem as though he would be keen on a move to Anfield.

It might still be a long shot, given how much Newcastle wants for his signature and the fact the Magpies probably won't want to sell to another Premier League side, but just imagine Isak in that Liverpool team next season.
