Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo visited Togo this week as part of a humanitarian trip, reconnecting with his roots and honoring his heritage.

Gakpo, who plays internationally for the Netherlands, is eligible to represent Togo through his ancestry, which also includes links to Ghana.

The visit was emotional and well received.

The streets of Togo came alive as locals welcomed Gakpo with traditional attire, singing, and dancing.

The Ewe people—a major ethnic group in the country—performed cultural dances to celebrate his arrival.

The air was filled with drums and joy.

Gakpo, whose visit came shortly after helping Liverpool win the Premier League, was captured holding the Togolese flag during his welcome ceremony.

Videos showed him engaging with community members and even trying out a local delicacy.

This isn’t his first time doing humanitarian work in Togo as he was there in 2023.

His consistent return reflects a deeper commitment.
