One Liverpool star is set to retire from professional football at the end of the season.
As the season draws near, several players will have decisions to make regarding their future.
Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have already decided to remain at the club beyond this season, having both signed two-year contract extensions at Liverpool.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has yet to commit to the club despite the club’s desire to keep him.
Elsewhere, Ibrahima Konate and Luis Diaz also have decisions to make regarding their futures.
The club is said to have opened contract talks with both players, albeit without success.
The club is expected to sit down with Diaz again at the end of the season amid strong interest from Barcelona and clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Darwin Nunez is one player who has seemingly already decided to leave the club.
Atletico Madrid and Saudi clubs want the Uruguayan striker, and widespread reports indicate that he won’t be in Liverpool beyond this season.
Joe Gomez, Harvey Elliott, Federico Chiesa, Kostas Tsimikas, Jarell Quansah, and Diogo Jota also have decisions to make regarding their futures, and Liverpool’s transfer activity is likely to affect their futures.
While the above-mentioned players continue to contemplate their future, one Liverpool star has already made a major decision regarding her future.
The club announced on Friday that Liverpool FC Women captain Niamh Fahey will retire from professional football at the end of the season.
The centre-half from the Republic of Ireland originally arrived in England with Arsenal in 2008.
Six years after moving to Anfield, the 37-year-old now ranks fourth on the club’s list of appearance-makers in the WSL era on 123 outings so far, with only Gemma Bonner (173), Ashley Hodson (134) and Taylor Hinds (129) above her.
Liverpool revealed that Fahey will bid farewell to Reds supporters at Anfield on Sunday at the Merseyside derby against Everton.
She will then complete her playing career at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea the following weekend, where she won the double a decade ago.
She has captained the club for the last five years, wearing the armband 70 times and lifting the FA Women’s Championship title in 2022 before helping the Reds reestablish themselves in the top flight.

In a farewell message, Fahey said: “It’s hard to summarise into words the emotions that I feel as I’m retiring.
There are probably too many.
“All I can say is how fortunate I feel for the career I’ve had and being able to finish it all off at my girlhood club, Liverpool FC.
“I’m so grateful for all the wonderful people I’ve met, shared a dressing room with and to those who have supported me throughout it all!
