Bobby Clark is back on English shores and back in the goals after a “frustrating few months” since he left Liverpool last summer.
Liverpool‘s 2024 summer transfer window was a quiet one with Federico Chiesa‘s £10million move from Juventus being their only new arrival, but a number of senior and young players were allowed to leave.
RB Salzburg signed Clark in a £10million deal last August after Pep Lijnders’ own move to the Austrian Bundesliga side, as Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg also completed big-money departures.
Brentford signed both Carvalho and Van den Berg and the duo played regularly last season, but Clark featured just 25 times in all competitions for RB Salzburg, with just seven starts and one Bundesliga goal.

Clark’s unsettled first season in Salzburg has led to a swift return to the UK a year on from his big-money move, and Football Insider revealved on 5 August that Clark was undergoing a medical at Derby County.
Derby confirmed Clark’s signing on a season-long loan deal the following day as part of a busy summer of transfer business for the Championship side, and the 20-year-old is already off the mark for the Rams.
Clark has featured in two of Derby‘s league matches so far this term, and scored a 35th-minute equaliser in their 2-1 loss to Premier League side Burnley in their Carabao Cup second-round tie on Tuesday.

The midfielder posted on Instagram on Wednesday to reflect on his impact at Turf Moor, and said: “Much needed goal after a frustrating few months – Thank you for your support Rams”.
Several of Clark’s ex-Liverpool team-mates showed support in the comments, with Kaide Gordon and Birmingham loanee Lewis Koumas both leaving ‘heart’ emojis alongside a beaming smile from the latter.

Football Insider Verdict
Arne Slot has sold off almost £200million worth of talent this summer to help fund Liverpool’s record-breaking transfer outlay in the other direction, with £290m and counting spent on nine new signings.
Liverpool had considered loan moves for several youngsters including Koumas, Gordon and James McConnell, and Birmingham won the race to sign the 19-year-old Wales international on 22 August.
Academy graduates Jarell Quansah and Tyler Morton have been sold off permanently, but anyone else who leaves Anfield this summer must view Clark’s “frustrating” Salzburg move as a cautionary tale.
