In football, every player is for sale, it’s just a question of whether another club is willing to pay enough to secure their signature.

It’s impossible to determine a price with any true accuracy, of course, but Transfermarkt uses the ‘wisdom of crowds’ approach to assign a market value to every player in the game.

They account for various factors, such as age and contract length, and it’s vital to bear in mind they are establishing what they deem a fair price, not what bid a club should accept to sell a player.

Transfermarkt’s latest update has revealed that Liverpool’s squad leads the Premier League for growth in value this season, with the Reds’ roster now collectively worth an additional $137.4m (£107.8m/€126m).

While it has only risen one place since, and most people would prefer the Reds’ collection of players to Chelsea’s $1.01bn (£794.1m/€928.3m) “bottle jobs” squad, there should be further growth in future too.

The Liverpool player who has risen most in value this term is Dominik Szoboszlai, with the Hungarian having gone from $54.4m (£42.8m/€50m) to $81.7m (£64.1m/€75m) during his first season in England.

Having been rated at $435.6k (£342k/€400k) last summer, Jarell Quansah has seen his value rocket by 2,900 per cent, third only to Murillo and Kobbie Mainoo on a proportional rise basis.

Conor Bradley has seen the sixth-greatest percentage increase in the Premier League so far this season, with the youngster now worth 10 times what he was last July.

Liverpool’s whole squad is rising in value and it’s a tribute to the work done at all levels of the club — greatly simplifying the task of FSG, Edwards and the next sporting director.

Liverpool.com says: While this is a theoretical exercise and the financial figures are impossible to prove, the improvement in Liverpool's playing staff in the last year is clear for all to see
