Liverpool still need to make a sale which no one seems to be talking about this summer - opinion

Liverpool are continuing to conduct good business throughout the transfer window but there is one area of the team that they still need to deal with.

The Reds have long been astute negotiators in the market and this summer has been no different, with this referring to both incomings and outgoings.

They have spent almost £300m, a figure that is expected to rise, and they have made around £130m from sales, also a number that will increase, especially after the eventual sale of Darwin Nunez.

However, despite all the praise they have been getting regarding their transfer activity, there is one area of the squad that still needs addressing, and it should be the next port of call once they have sold their Uruguayan striker.

It has been over a month now since Milos Kerkez joined from Bournemouth, with the Hungarian set to be the first-choice left-back at Anfield for the coming season.

That means that Liverpool have three left-backs now at the club at the same time, with little noise surrounding their futures.

Of course, a back-up is needed, but an extra one is unnecessary, especially as neither Andy Robertson nor Kostas Tsimikas are particularly adept at playing at centre-back.

That being said, the Reds need to make a choice over who they sell, with this desperately needed not only to raise more money, but also to free up a space on the bench for another player, preferably a younger one who can get the chance to prove themselves.

Who they choose to let go feels very up in the air for now, however, with the club needing to decide between a true servant of the club and a player who perhaps still has a little more to give.

The choice is a hard one to make but losing Robertson would feel much more of a loss both on and off the pitch compared to Tsimikas, suggesting it is the Scotsman who they should keep.

Not only is his personality something that needs to be kept around the dressing room, but he has the experience of being at the top level for a sustained period of time, something Kerkez can learn from him.

He can be the mentor, just like he has been to Rio Ngumoha rather surprisingly, that the Hungarian needs to take his game to another level, with the 21-year-old having all the qualities needed to be one of the best in the world.

Tsimikas would also bring in a slightly higher transfer fee, indicating another benefit of keeping Robertson, but either way, one of them needs to go.
