Rhian Brewster has revealed that he came close to quitting football altogether after the lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he explained how things nearly became too much, making him question his future in the game.

I think [rehab] taught me I am a strong person to have been through what I have been through in the last 13 months. It’s been a bumpy ride, but for me to come out of the other end, I think has helped me a lot.

There were so many points during the rehab where I thought I wanted to scrap football or I was feeling annoyed at the situation I was in, but to get through it and reach the other end, it’s shown me I am a strong person and that I know what I want to do.

Thankfully for Brewster and Liverpool, the young striker is now edging ever closer to his return to action.

The 18-year-old has not played for over a year as a result of a nasty ankle injury.

Brewster has long been tipped for big things at Liverpool but has already seen his development derailed at such a young age.

It is believed that Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool still have high hopes for the player who returned to light training this week.

He joined Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in making a return during the club’s warm-weather training camp in Marbella.
