Liverpool have less than two weeks to conclude their business in the summer transfer window, and the Alexander Isak saga looks set to go right down to the wire.
The Reds had a bid for Isak rejected, but the Newcastle United striker remains determined to secure his dream move to Anfield.
On Tuesday night, Isak broke his silence amid rampant transfer speculation with a statement on Instagram, after deciding not to attend the PFA Awards.
He spoke of “broken promises” and “trust being lost,” saying that his time at Newcastle “cannot continue.”
Newcastle have since issued their own statement addressing the situation.
Liverpool are reportedly unwilling to meet Newcastle’s £150million asking price, and it remains unclear whether their stance will shift following these latest developments.
Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounds the futures of Harvey Elliott and Kostas Tsimikas, while Ibrahima Konate’s situation also needs resolving, with the centre-back entering the final year of his contract.
While the men’s team continue to make moves in the transfer market, the women’s team are also extending the contracts of key players.
Liverpool have confirmed that Leanne Kiernan has signed a new contract with the club.
The Republic of Ireland striker signed her new deal at the AXA Melwood Training Centre today.
By putting pen to paper on fresh terms, the club’s second-highest scorer in the Barclays Women’s Super League era will now enter her fifth season with the Reds.
She told Liverpoolfc.com: “It feels amazing and I’m really excited to get going again.
“[My family are] delighted, honestly.
I feel like they’re really enjoying coming over to see me.
“[The fans] have been unbelievable – really supportive throughout injuries, really supportive by sticking with us and I feel like they’ve been there for the good times and the bad.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to celebrate with them a lot this year.”
The 26-year-old joined Liverpool FC Women in the summer of 2021, scoring 14 goals to help win the FA Women’s Championship in her debut season.
An ankle injury limited her first top-flight campaign, but she made 19 and 22 appearances over the past two seasons.
With 23 goals, she is the club’s second-highest scorer in the WSL era, behind only Natasha Dowie.
