The Reds have been busy adding quality to their squad, but attention now turns to who must make way as Liverpool look to balance their substantial investment in new talent.

After splashing out an eye-watering £200 million on signings including Florian Wirtz (£116m), Milos Kerkez (£40m), and Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5m), Liverpool must now turn their attention to player sales.

The surplus now in the squad as created a need for outgoings, with several players already attracting serious interest from across Europe.

The most significant departure appears to be Darwin Nunez, with Napoli maintaining their pursuit of the Uruguayan striker throughout the summer.

The Serie A champions have reportedly agreed personal terms with Nunez until 2030, worth €5 million per year.

Napoli’s position has been strengthened considerably after agreeing to sell Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray for £65 million.

This windfall gives the Italian club the financial firepower to meet Liverpool’s valuation.

And a potential incoming signing in Hugo Ekitike is hinging on the sale of the Uruguayan, but it doesn’t mean the Anfield club are not lining up the transfer in the meantime.

Italian journalist Nicolo Shira has reported that Liverpool is in the lead for the French forward, with Ekitike signaling his availability on a five-year contract to the Merseyside giants:

“Liverpool are currently leading the race to try to sign Hugo Ekitikè from Eintracht Frankfurt,” he wrote on X.

“The striker has given his availability for a contract until 2030?

Opened talks.”

The 23-year-old, fresh from a strong 2024/25 campaign in which he scored 22 goals and supplied 12 assists in 48 appearances, has emerged as a target for the Reds to replace Darwin Nunez.

Eintracht Frankfurt are thought be tough negotiators.

Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche has made it clear that Ekitike will only leave on their terms.

“If the price isn’t right, then he’ll simply stay with us,” Krösche said to regional paper Wiesbadener Kurier last month.

“We don’t have to sell Hugo.”

It is believed that Frankfurt want a gargantuan €100 million to sanction a sale of the Frenchman.
